Did you know?
Entamoeba histolytica kills host cells by trogocytosis — it literally bites off and swallows fragments of the living cell membrane, nibbling the cell to death rather than engulfing it whole. This 'nibbling' ability is exactly what separates the pathogenic E. histolytica from the morphologically identical, harmless E. dispar, which looks the same under the microscope but can't do it.
