Did you know?
In Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis, steroids reduce inflammation but suppress antifungal immunity, allowing continued fungal growth despite symptom improvement. Iron chelation can help by starving Aspergillus, but excessive chelation impairs the already steroid-weakened neutrophil response. This creates a treatment paradox where both anti-inflammatory therapy and iron restriction can simultaneously help and harm the patient.
