Neurocysticercosis cysts survive in the brain for years by molecular camouflage: the larva coats itself in host-derived proteins and secretes molecules that mimic the host's own immune signals, so the immune system reads it as 'self.' The seizures often start only when the larva finally dies — its cloak breaks down, the immune system suddenly sees the intruder, and the inflammation that follows is what triggers the epilepsy.
